Matt and I have this cute little thing we do. Every holiday, birthday, important moment we search everywhere for the most randomly hilarious board or card game we can find. If this were a competition, which I believe it will be from this point on, I would win because for Matt’s birthday I bought him this game called Snapdoodle. This game involved sniffing the player to your lefts armpit and with a straight face saying “mmm that smells good.” And that card might have been one of the least embarrassing. If you are a far more serious person and do not find sniffing other people’s armpits hysterical then you may not like this game, but I think I lost 10 pounds and had perfectly toned abs after laughing through the entire ridiculous game.
Don’t let my mastery of finding amazing games fool you. Matt is almost just as good as me. For my birthday last year he bought me this game called “In a Pickle.” There are these cards with words on them like “apple, pain, universe, fear” and the aim of the game is to argue what fits in what. The apple fits in the universe, which arguable could be something someone is afraid of so it might fit into fear. That’s basically how it goes, when everyone who is playing the game understands. As part of my going away week I got together with a bunch of friends to play In a Pickle and laughed possible harder than when I played Snapdoodle.
Before running off to laugh hysterically I found myself in my own pickle. The friend whose house we were going to asked me to bring a dessert. If I had any other degree I might have made boxed brownies, but the whole Pastry Chef thing normally causes people to assume that you will most likely bake an amazing dessert. I stress shopped through the bulk food store by my parent’s house and found a container of pure cashew butter.
Does cashew butter fit into a ice cream sandwich? Well I made cashew butter cookies…
1/2 cup cashew butter
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1.5 cups flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
Cream the butter and the sugar. Add the egg and vanilla. Mix in the flour, baking powder and salt. Blend away and scoop onto a cookie sheet. Bake at 375 F for 10 minutes.
Just a cookie normally good for Matt and I, unless it is a very special occasion, you know like him buying me a new card game. But for these wonderful friends of mine who knew I was a pastry chef I decided to make ice cream sandwiches. I scooped some vanilla ice cream, shaved some bittersweet chocolate, and put the sandwich together. I had a bit of a problem when the ice cream started melting, but mom came to my rescue and cleared out a shelf in the freezer for me. I love my mom. She tends to help me out of my pickles.
The sandwiches were a hit and I was told my idea of putting space after memory was dumb. Did I mention that I really don’t want to leave Pennsylvania? Where else does all of this ridiculousness happen on a regular basis? Now I need to snif your armpits and say “mmm that smells good. Matt tends to win every game we play and I really don’t want to lose the next time I play Snapdoodle.
Happy Eating!!!
Emily
